Noobtown 5 Draft Status
The editor is chomping at it. I'm taking a second pass at a few scenes that I didn't much care for after I got finished with them. Everything is progressing well. Right now we are up to 125k words and I'm liking Jim's journey in this story.
The Final Battle is not up to snuff. I wrote it and thought when I did, this isn't great but I can fix it. I can't fix it. It's just badly paced. I'm going to have to pluck out huge chunks of it and turn it into something great. The sad thing is that I think it would hold up normally, but I have 2 really good battle scenes in the book so far and it's only bad compared to them.
Another thing that's different is that I'm going for action all the time in this book. Instead of a wordy beginning followed by compressing the action into a few dense chapters, Noob Town Plus is far more action-oriented throughout, plus I have about as much character dialogue and actions but they are more interlaced into the ongoing scenes. I think it works really well, has a lot of good character interaction, action, and humor mixed in.
I'm still shooting for a week or two before Christmas. I have no idea if I'll manage that though so we shall see. I already released 2 books this year, I'm not necessarily sure I can pull off a Hat Trick but then again it would be wild.
Stay Healthy!
I love the series! Thanks for the update.
ReplyDeletePlease keep up the good work. Over the past several years I’ve read The King Killer Chronicles, The Dark Tower, Founding, Awaken Online, Dune, Emerald Blade to name a few. The Noobtown series is my favorite. Book 4 was excellent! Can’t wait to see where you take us the the next book, but happy to wait until you think it’s right.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the new book! I just finished listening to book 4 today and oh my gosh, I almost drove off the road I was laughing so hard. Thank you for all your hard work! Also, Johnathan McClain really brings your characters to life! I am really hoping he will be narrating book 5.
ReplyDeleteThe series is the best ive read among the LitRPG and actually got me trying to find a challenger and i havent yet. Also please keep McClain if possible the amount of energy he put into those fight scenes at the end of book 4 was exhilarating.
ReplyDeleteI do not think you will find a challenger: I have looked deep, a few series are ok, a few are even nice, most are just a waste of time, including an abnormal number of ones with some weird harem fetish.
DeleteBut I have not yet find anything on the level of Noobtown.
Look into Dakota Krout. I love this series and all of Dakotas books too
DeleteI like Dakota, just finished the last Ritualist book, so that's high praise. One way or ther other.
DeleteI just binged all four books in 2 weeks. I couldn’t stop listen at all. It’s such a unique and entertaining way of thinking about a fantasy series. You can tell your writing and ideas are getting even stronger. McClain was such a good choice for the voice. I just finished book four, and I couldn’t fall asleep for hours last night because the story and his thrilling narration. Anyway, I am so looking forward to book five! It’s amazing how fast you’re publishing these series for how long they are. I’m definitely recommending your series to all my nerd friends (or really just friends... we’re all nerds)
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your hard work the books are amazing and I have no doubt the next will top them all. I've read all four in one week. Keep up the great work
ReplyDeleteThis books amazing i listen to all 4 books in a week.
ReplyDeleteYES! just working through Castle now. Excited that Plus will be out soon!
ReplyDeleteGreat series. Need Jara the healer back and the badger. Your narrator is outstanding.
ReplyDeleteWhat differentiates adventurers from the “commoners” I’m halfway through book four and it keeps coming up but I can’t remember if it was explicitly stated or if I just missed that part. I’m listening on audio so it’s not as easy to quickly scan through like a book to find the answer. Thanks
ReplyDeleteBasically adventurers have a class, while "commoners" don't, which strictly limit how they evolve and their power level. Some people are born adventurers, others can become it, in the way described in book 4, but it is not easy, so not many try.
DeleteIm a little Confuse on that as well like why did jarra the healer not have a class and sue leeter have one..the must be other hunters in town but there just Profession and not classed
DeleteJarra the Healer didn't have a class because she was born a commoner. They don't' get classes, they get Professions if they choose to level their skills up that way. SueLeeta was born as a Woodsman.
DeleteThere are professional, as in they have the Profession, hunters in town. Many of them work as Scouts in the Windfall militia. SueLeeta, if she applies herself, can bring in more game than all of them put together.
My husband and I just Audible binged the books. 4 was awesome!!! We have a deep love of *good* Lit RPG Books but the Noob books are so great!! We *love* the dead pan humor between Jim and the companions!!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Working on book 5.
DeleteI love this series. I'm actually listening to it for the second time. My teenage son and I have been able to enjoy it together which has been great. The plot's engaging. Fast paced, but with enough detail that everything flows well. Jim and his companions are likeable without being perfect which makes them far more interesting as characters. I've also enjoyed how other characters have come into play as the story has progressed. The humor is amazing and the naration is perfect. The end of book 4 was perfect. I was worried how it would play out, and actually had to put it down for a few days when Shart was banished. Ryan Rimmel really closed it well though. I finish each book wanting more. This is the best series I've come across in quite some time of any genre.
